About Andrew Wakefield

Dr. Wakefield is an academic gastroenterologist and surgeon with a special interest in inflammatory diseases. Born in Britain in 1957, he was educated in Canada and became a physician at the Royal Free Hospital in London.

Wakefield qualified as a doctor in 1981 after studying at St Mary’s Hospital Medical School, part of Imperial College London. After becoming a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1985; he continued his studies under a Wellcome Trust travelling fellowship at Toronto University, Canada, where he worked as a transplant surgeon, specialising in small-intestine transplantation.

At the time of his MMR research study, was Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in Experimental Gasteroentology at the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine (from 2008 UCL Medical School) and, from 1997, he was Reader in Experimental Gasteroenterology. He resigned in 2001. In 1995, while conducting research into Crohn’s disease, he was approached by Rosemary Kessick, the parent of an autistic child seeking help with her son’s bowel problems and autism.[26] Kessick ran a group, Allergy Induced Autism, which focused on the effects of diet on autistic children’s behavior.

In November 2001 Wakefield became a fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists in recognition of his research publications. He is currently unlicensed in the UK as a physician.

Until February 2010, Wakefield served as the Executive Director of Thoughtful House Center for Children in Austin, Texas, USA.

Dr. Wakefield is one of the world’s most respected and well-published gastroenterologists. He has published dozens of papers since 1998 in well-regarded peer-reviewed journals all over the world. His work documenting the bowel disease of children with autism and his exploration of novel ways to treat bowel disease has helped relieve the pain and suffering of thousands of children with autism.

He now is the subject of a witchhunt which result in more children suffering as well as Andrew & his family.
